The term the completing ministry is based upon Colossians 1:25, where Paul says that he was commissioned “to complete the word of God.” To complete the word of God means to complete the revelation of God. Without Paul’s writings, the revelation of God is not complete. Without Paul’s ministry, we would have the thirty-nine books of the Old Testament and at least the four Gospels in the New Testament. But what would we be missing? We would be missing the revelation of Christ as our life and life supply, and the revelation of Christ as the all-inclusive One. We would also not know Christ as the Head or the church as His Body. These points are the completion of God’s revelation, and they are revealed in the ministry of Paul. Thus, it is crucial for us to see that Paul’s ministry was a completing ministry. Without Paul’s writings, we would lack a vital part of God’s revelation.
