The Bible is a record of life. From Genesis to Revelation, every book of the Bible is occupied with the divine life. We may have teachings about God and a mental comprehension of God; however, we may not realize that God can be life to us, that we need to take God as life, and that we need to live by God. But this is the central revelation of the Scriptures: God Himself wants to be life to us.
“Everything in God’s intention depends on God’s being life to us. If we do not have God as life, we do not have the real knowledge, wisdom, joy, or strength, for all these things depend on the divine life (cf. Col. 2:3; 3:4). When life is gone, everything is gone. Hence, God’s being life to us is His being everything to us. Although this is a fact, few of us have the deep registration that God is life to us…Only when God opens our eyes and illuminates us will we have a deep and constant consciousness that God is our life and that without Him we can do nothing (John 15:5). When He brings us into His light, the fact that God is life is not merely doctrine, teaching, or knowledge to us; it is a deep sense within us. When we have this inward realization, we live by, in, through, and with Him.”
