Colossians 1:12 says, “Giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you for a share of the allotted portion of the saints in the light.” According to this verse, Christ is the allotted portion of the saints, just as the land of Canaan was the God-allotted portion to the children of Israel in the Old Testament. God delivered the children of Israel out of Egypt to bring them into the land of Canaan so that they might live in the land and enjoy all its produce. The more they enjoyed the produce of the land, the more they could live for God and worship God. All the offerings needed for the worship of God were the produce of the land. The top portion of this produce was reserved for God. Then, three times a year, they appeared before God with this produce as offerings in their worship to Him for His satisfaction (Deut. 14:22-23; 16:16). Through this enjoyment of the good land, the children of Israel were able to build a temple for God as His dwelling place and a city for God as the center of His kingdom. The house of God, the kingdom of God, and the worship received by God were the issue of the Israelites’ enjoyment of the produce of the land of Canaan.
This is a perfect picture showing that God saves us out of the world and from our sins to put us in Christ and plant us in Christ so that we can live and walk in Christ. We experience Christ by enjoying Him, eating and drinking Him, and living and walking in Him. Thus, He becomes our all in all. By exercising to turn to our spirit to enjoy the riches of Christ, we can bring the Christ whom we have experienced in spirit and offer Him to God as an offering for His satisfaction. Out of this experience of Christ, the building of the church as God’s house and God’s kingdom will be accomplished. Both God’s house and God’s kingdom are products that come out of the saints’ enjoyment of the riches of Christ.
